there is a great sadness
only a mother knows
of a special needs child
there is a future never
to be reached, that future
we are taught in church
this christian way of being
the presumption
that has a house, two kids, a dog and a job to go to
and a partner that shares
love and body and mind
a sadness encompassing
the semblance
as each child whose needs
are more than just the way
we are taught: how many
internal fights: outwardly
safe. movement a haven
death a prayer. a prayer
that as a mother i will be last to go
