Neruda must have thought it too
.......................... sometimes
I am sad and happy at the same
time - do not enter* not knowing
the future: regretting the past - still
able to be in the present - seeing all
the beauty the earth has to offer....
Roethke felt it as well - as he inventoried
his pencils* in the desk. - this happiness
that enflames us to write and the sadness
once done -
..................we return to the place
where rivers once knew us and coffee
turned cold and dishes need washing
hair needs dying: cats need feeding - birthdays
come and go like silky cats enraged at the light
Ode to Sadness by Pablo Neruda
