in the city of strawberries
there are vampires i recall
very specifically a young
lady - who so very much
wanted to be loved - she
befriended me after but
before she had tried to
end it all that third time
i liked her instantly - she
took me home, i met her
family, her sisters, her step-
sister, and all her lovers
she was willing to share
them all - even her Bill - i
liked Bill - he would take
my checks, hand me cash
and never deposit - we had
such dreams - she and i
she never came to my
wedding and i never was
invited to hers - she has
three or four kids now
lives in the blues of Kentucky
i miss her every now and
again - especially when i
drink alone - she was my
friend after but before it
all came to pass - i loved her laugh
