the feeding of ducks is a dangerous
endeavor, they invite friends, waddle

to the earth and never leave - what
is it about bread that invites the world

to sit and rest and still strive for more
it is in the very words of our lord

this bread of life: life we take and give
away as easily as the breath we take

the awful responsibility of the those
who make bread, those who transport

those who guard it - where does
the mind go when the end is near

and there is a door that needs to be
opened, to be entered, to be faced

knowing that once entered - there may
never be any more of this we take

for granted. still to not enter, not
face, not strive for more is no more

than the simple end where we are now
