it's been a while

It has been a while since I have written with regards to my autistic son's development/progress. I am writing now so that I can figure out the next step to take.

He is speaking, he is curious, he is, if one only met him for a few minutes, "normal". To those of us who know him, we know he bounces, stems on occasion, still pinches and once in along while bites. His physical aggression and his tendency to say bad words are his Achilles heels. We have him on NO psychotropic medication. He is however on various supplements to include enzymes, probiotics, vitamin B12, cell salts, vayarin, and saccharomyces. He also takes nystatin for his leaky gut. He sees a Pediatric Specialist, and has an amazing highly qualified tutor. Not to mention the endless hours my mother spends with him one on one - the cost is high but the results are worth it.

He is reading on a fifth grade level, writing on a second grade level and doing multiplication and division. His reasoning is getting better, his spontaneous language is increasing, and his imagination has blossomed. I am amazingly proud of him and his results. He still lacks depth in why questions but we are moving towards, if not a complex response, a tolerable one.

However, he is still not where he needs to be - if he is ever to be independent, hold down a job, and do all the necessary and boring things the world requires of us in this first world country. Thus I am thinking of implementing the SON RISE PROGRAM. I have watched the video, read the information, reviews... and it seems that there is more hope in my son becoming a productive and dare I dream amazing part of this world.

I do not want to take away his beauty. He is beautiful being autistic but the pragmatist that I am knows I have to continue to push, continue so that I will never have to face a reality that when my time comes to an end on this world my beautiful son will be placed at best in a group home and at worst at an institution.

Thus more is needed for and from him. And what more is provided him now - the less needed in the future.
