it is ancient, as all lands are - far into the
northern edge where ice fossilizes instead
of dust: perhaps it is still europe's darkest
corner or perhaps the images ring true of
light - or perhaps it is just the name that
makes it possible to imagine that a people
who survive under such a hammer can be
happy just to breathe, simple breath, let us
